Reflection

The 2002 Giants were a balanced team comprised of a consistent pitching staff and an extremely potent offense, led by the infamous Barry Bonds. That year, they were the last ranked playoff team in the National League, but they caught fire at the right time and sailed through the National League playoff bracket with ease. Their opponents were the Anaheim Angels (now the Los Angeles Angels). They too were the lowest seated team on their side of the playoff bracket, giving more reason for optimism. The Giants put themselves in position to win the best-of-seven series on the sixth game. They even had a five to nothing lead in the sixth inning. This was the happiest I had ever been as a sports fan, but it was short lived. The Angels would end up roughing up Giants’ bullpen and winning the game. The next game, they won the series, and I, as a fan, went from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows, as did the city. The vibrant and lively city of San Francisco, at least for that night, sulked with its team, reflecting on what could have been and what hasn’t been.
